Filling tires with air is one of the easiest DIY maintenance tasks for your car, and it’s also one of the most important, especially during the winter. Cold air reduces your tire pressure, which makes your tires have worse traction, so they’ll slip more easily in wet and icy conditions. Follow these easy steps to filling your tires with air.
First, check your owner’s manual to determine what the proper PSI for your car’s tires is. Then use a pressure gauge to find out the pressure in each of your four tires. Locate the valve stem in the rim of the wheel, take off the cap, and push the tip off the gauge into the stem. If the number it reads is lower than your suggested PSI, add air to the tire.
Many gas stations have a spot where you can fill your tires with air if you don’t feel like buying your own automatic or manual air pump. Just make sure you bring lots of quarters. Park near the air pump and take the caps off all the valve stems, but don’t lose them!
Then, just like checking the pressure with the gauge, push the tip of the hose into the valve stem and fill the tire with air, stopping periodically to read the pressure again. Once your tire is at the appropriate pressure, replace the valve stem cap. Repeat with the other tires as needed.

KBB recognized the eighth-generation Maxima for its revised styling and upgrades, including standard Apple CarPlay and two new packages in addition to the previously available Midnight Edition.
The 2017 Nissan Maxima will be available in five trim levels and will start at $32,610. With an excellent rating on KBB.com and an amazing 42.8% of its value kept after 3 years, the new Maxima is already one of the highest rated vehicles in the full-size segment.
KBB commented on the Maxima’s exceptional interior, which was also redesigned for the new model year, with highlights like the leather-covered seats and Zero Gravity power-adjustable seats. The new Maxima’s exceptional quality inside and out led KBB to choose it as their Best Resale Value Award segment winner.
For many people, their car is one of their most important possessions. Unfortunately, cars are also a very expensive possession. That’s why it’s important for people to learn how to complete basic car maintenance. Here are just a few things that you can do to save yourself some money.
Learn How to Detail
Since many people spend a lot of time in their cars each day, it makes sense that they get dirty fast. While you can take your car to a professional to have it detailed, it saves you considerable cash to just do it on your own.
Checking Fluids And Tire Pressure
This is one of the easiest things you can do to maintain your car. It requires essentially no technical skills and not checking fluids can lead to thousands of dollars worth of damage. All that you have to do is keep a regular schedule and ensure both the fluids and pressure are in check.
Not many people remember to check the various filters in their cars, but it’s an easy task that doesn’t require very much technical knowledge. As long as you are able to read a manual to locate the filters in your car, you can change them yourself.
If you take care of these simple steps, you will save yourself hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.
Everyone knows that living in Texas isn’t exactly conducive to keeping a clean car. That’s why it’s important to take matters into your own hands. Here’s how to detail your car like a pro without spending a bunch of money.
Your first step is to get an air compressor. Starting with the corners and cracks of your car, blow the dirt into the middle of your car. Once you’re finished with the edges of your car, turn the air compressor on the vents. Finally, vacuum everything off of the floor and seats of the car.
Now that the interior of your car is clean, move to the exterior. Before washing your car, check the soap that you are using to ensure that it is not acidic. If you use the wrong type of soap, it eats away at the protective layer on your paint and rims. Instead, use a soap that is specifically designed for cleaning cars.
Once you’ve ensured that you are using the proper soap, begin washing the top of your car. If you begin on the bottom, you will eventually have dirty water running down your clean spaces when you wash the top of the car.
Now that you know how to detail your car like a pro, you never have to pay someone else to do it again!

If you had a rough time getting to your destination for Thanksgiving, don’t repeat the same mistakes! Here are some holiday travel tips from us here at Silsbee Nissan to ease your traveling woes this season.
- Packing – Baggage fees can be a major drain on travel funds which is why it’s important to consider alternative options. Instead of checking multiple bags, pack unnecessary belongings, like extra clothes, and send them through the mail. Doing so will save money over the course of your travels. Make sure to pack everything you need for the flight into your carry-on bag!
- Driving – Those intending to drive to their destination would do well to make use of available technologies. GPS systems and route-planning apps can make any travel day a breeze. Many systems receive real-time updates, which means the route can be updated instantly to avoid reported accidents and hazards.
- Flying – Passengers planning to fly can make use of technology as well. Popular airlines often have apps that allow customers to accept flight and ticket information on their smartphone. Some airports even have apps that help passengers find their gate.
Nissan has made it a point to offer major incentives to drivers who choose to get behind the wheel of the LEAF electric vehicle. Now the Japanese automaker is expanding its “No Charge to Charge” program in an effort to attract even more customers. As the program continues to expand, drivers can save more than just gas money by buying a new Nissan LEAF.
The “No Charge to Charge” program offers no-cost public charging for up to two years with the purchase or lease of a Nissan LEAF. The latest expansion adds to Madison, Wisconsin to the growing list of cities where the program is available.
The new addition to the list provides even more confidence that driving an electric vehicle isn’t as limiting as it may seem initially.
“As a pioneer in bringing affordable EVs to the mass market, Nissan understands that EV owners want to be confident in their ability to drive longer distances and this program does just that,” said Brian Maragno, director of Nissan EV Sales and Marketing.
In total, Nissan LEAF drivers can save up to $1,000 in charging costs over the two-year program through no-cost public charging.
We here at Silsbee Nissan are glad to see driving a LEAF becoming even more affordable for more drivers!
For many people, buying a used car isn’t really an option—but it should be. Gone are the days where used cars were considered lemons that will only end up costing more money. If you are looking for a new car, rather than going with something shiny and new, consider these reasons to buy a used car.
Pay less. Purchasing a used car can save you thousands of dollars right off the bat. Used cars have less sales tax, lower insurance costs, and typically lower registration rates (depending on your state). All of these savings can add up, making a used car cheaper overall to purchase.
Low depreciation. Another area that used vehicles can save you money is in its depreciation value. When you purchase a brand-new car, the moment you drive off the dealership lot the car drops significantly in value. According to NY Daily News, the value of a new car can be just 54% of what you paid for it after three years. This isn’t the case with used cars.
Get more bang for your buck. If you are the type of consumer that wants all the bells and whistles in your vehicle, yet don’t want to pay a high price, then a used car is the right choice for you. Buying a higher trim level on an older model—even one that is only a year or two old—will give you plenty of wiggle room in your budget to get all the features you have dreamt about.
The sedan is one of the most popular segments in the United States, though currently second to crossovers. However, no one can deny they’re a mainstay of the industry. The Nissan Altima has been a longtime favorite nameplate among the competition, and now, the 2017 model is available, packed with excellence in design and engineering that mark it as a shining example of a modern sedan. However, Altima fuel economy is its crowning achievement – and its highway EPA estimate soars above the competition.
Sedans have never been gas-guzzling monsters like the SUVs and pickups of the past, but the 2017 Altima is the first-ever entry in its class on the market to get up to 39 mpg on the highway according to the EPA. That gives it a staggering six-mpg advantage over the competing Toyota Camry thanks to its standard 2.5-liter engine.
Of course, you don’t have to opt for the engine that gives you the best Altima fuel economy. Even the more powerful engine option the six-cylinder cranks out 270 horsepower while only taking a very slight hit in the realm of efficiency. Alongside innovative safety tech that keeps you and your passengers more secure than ever on the open road, and the 2017 Nissan Altima is a winner in every category.
