If you can think of some of the worst places to spend a few hours, for most people, the DMV would be near the top of their list. Unfortunately, nearly all of us have to spend some time there at one point or another. To make your experience a little better, here are a few tips for going to the DMV.
- Make sure you need to actually go. Many DMV-related activities don’t require a trip to the DMV. Check to see if what you need to do can be done online or through the mail.
- Be prepared. Check online to make sure you have all the necessary paperwork required. That could include your current driver’s license, birth certificate, car title, bill of sale, proof of address, etc.
- Go during downtime. Check online or call to see when would be the ideal time to visit. The middle of the week is usually the slowest.
- Expect the worst. Even with the best of plans, you could still end up with a long wait. Don’t plan for a short trip. And, make sure you eat before you go and bring something to keep you occupied.
Here at Nissan of Silsbee, we hope those tips help make your next DMV experience more bearable.
If kayaking and fishing are passions of yours, you may have heard the name Eric Jackson before. Jackson spends most of his time out on the water doing competitive whitewater kayaking. In addition, he has created some innovative kayak builds and is even a professional fisherman.
Recently, Nissan TITAN and Eric Jackson teamed up at the annual ICAST (International Convention of Allied Sport Fishing Trades) to show off the capabilities of the Nissan TITAN lineup. Jackson will also get to use a TITAN XD pickup for his professional appearances. That truck will be more than capable for towing his line of custom kayaks and his Ranger fishing boat.
“It’s a rare occasion when Eric Jackson is not on a lake fishing or navigating the most treacherous whitewater rapids,” said Fred Diaz, division vice president and general manager, North America Trucks and Light Commercial Vehicles, Nissan North America, Inc. “We’re proud that he has selected TITAN XD as his wheels of choice.”
According to Jackson, the TITAN was an easy choice to make. Both he and Nissan are headquartered in Tennessee. In addition, the TITAN XD is assembled in Canton, Mississippi, and Jackson said his company, Jackson Kayak, manufactures as much in the United States as they can, just like Nissan.
Come experience the American-made, capable Nissan TITAN lineup, available now at Nissan of Silsbee.
Summer is in full swing, and if you want to keep your trusty vehicle in tip-top shape to help you take advantage of the fine weather, then you’ll want to follow these quick-and-easy summer car care tips:
- Your coolant system is critical. Make sure all your fluid reservoirs are full and fresh. While you’re at it, you may as well get your coolant hoses inspected.
- You’ll probably be blasting the AC quite a bit, so make sure it’s up to par! Check for Freon leaks by looking to see how much refrigerant is left in the system; if it seems low, have a qualified technician check it out. If your AC feels a little weaker than you want it, grab a quick AC recharger from an auto parts or big box-store.
- As temperatures change, your tire pressure will flux. Now is a good time to check your tire pressure and make sure your tire tread isn’t too worn for your upcoming summer road trips.
- Our final summer care tip is one you should adhere to every season: make sure you’re getting your oil changed! Summer heat will get your engine working over-time — don’t leave it out to dry with dirty, cruddy oil.
Any summer service you require can be completed right here in the service department of Nissan of Silsbee. Schedule an appointment today!
We might just be on the brink of a watershed moment in vehicular history, and it’s all thanks to the incredible strides in autonomous driving technology being made by automakers such as Nissan.
Nissan has often been ahead of the curve thanks to its record-breaking car, the Nissan LEAF, the best-selling all-electric vehicle in the world. Now, Nissan is adding to the impressive feats its flagship electric vehicle is capable of by introducing brand-new autonomous driving technology to the next generation of LEAFs.
Nissan LEAFs will feature the state-of-the-art ProPILOT Assist system. ProPILOT Assist will help a driver stay in their current lane while traveling on the freeway. The system will also aid in controlling acceleration and braking, as well as control steering with its Autosteer and Traffic Aware Cruise Control features.
The 2018 Nissan LEAF is just the beginning. Nissan projects that, by 2020, its enhanced vehicles will be able to navigate intersections and drive through cities with complete autonomy.
ProPILOT Assist is the next level of autonomous driving, and it will be available on one of the most popular cars in the world. Big things are happening, and Nissan of Silsbee is happy to provide our customers with cars at the forefront of it all.

Traveling with pets is a great way to make the most of your summer vacation. However, there are some important things to keep in mind when driving on the road with a furry companion. For instance, you should never leave pets unattended and always provide the proper restraints.
According to the DMV, there’s the window issue. Despite the many ads we see of dogs sticking their head out the window, this is a bad idea. In addition to the possibility of debris hitting your pet’s head, heavy airflow can damage respiratory systems. Also, many animals can escape onto the road at low speeds. It’s simply not a good idea to let your pet stick its head out the window, regardless of how much they enjoy it. Instead, crack the window just enough for them to stick their noses out. This way, they will be able to enjoy the many scents flying by and you won’t have to be concerned about them getting hurt.
Find the proper restraints for your pet. It can be tempting to ride with your pet in your lap, but this is dangerous for both you and the animal. Pets can be a major distraction; plus, the animals could get hurt if there is an accident. Look for carriers that strap securely to the seat—much like a children’s car seat—or car barriers that strap into the back of the vehicle.
Finally, never leave your animal unattended in a hot car. On longer road trips, try to stop every two hours or so for your animal to get out and move around. You should bring fresh water, bags to clean up messes, and your pet’s favorite toys. Above all else, if your pet really isn’t having a good time, it may be a good idea to leave them home.

Buying a new car may not be an option for all drivers, especially if some dealerships require a lot of money up front. Fortunately, the modern market has two perfectly viable financing options that will likely meet the needs of most, if not all, drivers. Below you’ll find a comparison of direct lending versus dealership lending from our team here at Nissan of Silsbee.
Buyers interested in direct lending will receive a loan directly from a financial institution, like a bank or credit union. Once approved, drivers use the loan to pay the dealership for the vehicle.
Choosing to go the way of direct lending will allow customers to compare several lenders before committing to a contract. Comparing credit terms and contracts can allow buyers to get a better deal in the long run.
Those who choose dealership lending will receive financing from the dealership directly. Like with direct lending, buyers enter a contract and use the loan to pay for the vehicle. The dealership can then sell or retain the contract.
Dealership lending offers on-site financing, which makes it more convenient. Some dealerships offer multiple financing options thanks to close relationships with financial institutions. Automotive manufacturers also offer special financing programs through dealerships, meaning buyers could find the best deal right at the dealership.

Nissan’s Nismo performance division isn’t exactly a secret, especially for enthusiasts who tend to rave about high-performance models of their favorite commuter cars. Nissan is looking to do fans a major favor. While Nismo has been fairly quiet over the past, it looks like things are going to be revving up in the near future.
New Nissan Nismo models are in the works, following the formation of the Nismo Cars Business Department. The new department will function to gather resources through Nissan Motorsports, among other groups that fall under the Nissan umbrella. The end result will be more Nismo models rolling off the line sooner rather than later.
Some of the most recent Nismo models include the Sentra and Juke. While the Sentra saw performance tweaks in the suspension, the Juke received a more powerful engine under the hood. Notably, there aren’t Nismo models of the Nissan Altima and Rogue, two of the most popular vehicles in the industry, let alone the brand lineup.
While Nismo models currently only see around 15,000 units sold each year, more fan-favorite models will almost certainly appeal to the enthusiast within the average driver. Additional styling and performance updates are bound to help land more Nismo badges on the road too.
We here at Nissan of Silsbee can’t help but be excited for the arrival of new Nissan Nismo models!
Looking for a little pick-me-up after a long winter? It might be time to spring clean your vehicle for a like-new driving experience. At Nissan of Silsbee, we’re firm believers in taking good care of our cars, so we’ve compiled a list of tips for the ultimate automotive spring cleaning experience.
Carpet and upholstery
Start by clearing any debris off the seats and floors. Use a vacuum to get the little pieces of dirt and dust in the crevices. Take out the floor mats and spray them with stain remover before scrubbing them down. While those are drying, you can use a damp towel to wipe down your seats.
Clean windows aren’t just important for aesthetic reasons; having clean windows also does wonders for visibility, which is important for your safety, especially during a rainy spring. Wash your windows and windshield thoroughly with glass cleaner. Top off the windshield with Rain-X for extra weather protection. Replacing your wipers every spring is a good idea, but an alternative is to wipe them down with rubbing alcohol to prevent streaks on the windshield.
It’s important to give your vehicle a good exterior scrub after a long winter. Grime like road salt builds up over the cold months and can linger underneath the vehicle and cause corrosion or rusting. Give your car a bath with a pressure washer and be sure to get that underside. Finish it off with a layer of protective wax that will keep your car’s exterior looking fresh well into next winter.
It’s finally that time of year, when you plan a week away from life’s usual routines and spend it with family and friends. Whether you live in the Lone Star State or not, it’s worth noting that there are plenty of great options for spring break in Texas. Here are some of our favorites.
Dinosaur Valley State Park
Dinosaur fans – and even just those who can’t get enough of Jurassic Park – will be into a visit to this state park in Glen Rose. Look for dinosaur tracks left behind along Paluxy River, a reminder of prehistoric times. Beautiful nature and fresh air make this park a spring break winner.
Six Flags Over Texas
Who doesn’t like the thrill of a coaster or the view from a high ride? Six Flags Over Texas offers everything, from gentle thrills to heart-pumping rides not for the faint of heart. This Arlington, Texas amusement park is a great location for a short spring break getaway.
About two hours away from Nissan of Silsbee, Galveston Island is one of our favorite places to catch some sun. Take in the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico while you stroll along the boardwalk, catch a concert, or have a drink at a local bar. This beach is definitely down to party, making it perfect for college students looking for a break. However, with plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, Galveston is great for families too.
